CTC was formed in 1970 as Christchurch Theatre Club and was made up of members of the Sunday School at Christchurch Methodist Church in Shepshed. ‘Cinderella Revisited’ was the first show performed in the small upstairs hall at the church.
Other shows followed and in 1977 the group began to put on two productions per year. The club soon outgrew the small stage at Christchurch and moved on to the bigger venue of Hind Leys School. Venues performed at over the years include Barry Young’s Stardust, Stanford Hall Theatre and the Sir Robert Martin Theatre at Loughborough University. Currently both of CTC’s musicals are performed at Loughborough Town Hall.
Rehearsals now take place at Castle Rock High School and the group rehearse from September to May. Recently CTC have become known for obtaining the licences for brand new musicals, direct from London’s West End. In the last ten years alone, eleven of the twenty musicals have been brand new releases to the amateur theatre circuit.
